control freak eve mcgrath meets her match makes-no-promises nick baker in a taste of you. she's the event coordinator extraordinaire who manages the blue mountain distillery's tasting room and her mother with a notebook filled with to-do lists and a special love of office supplied. he's a recovering alcoholic whose father is a raging alcoholic who is contracted to refinish the tasting room space in time for eve's mother's big society function.

basically, it's all a disaster waiting to happen. and it falls apart pretty much the way you think. except, nick doesn't fall off the wagon, which is good. and the connection that he and eve develop is real and strong and oh-so-sexy.

she's so tightly wound and something about him spins her out of control in a way that feels so liberating. and being with her makes nick want to make promises that he will keep. so much so that even when things feel hopeless you have hope that they'll make it through in the end because as unlikely as it is, they are meant to be.

i love it when obstacles have stakes, but are also things you can overcome. it makes you feel like the characters really earn their happy endings. both nick and eve have enough baggage between them that whatever happiness they earn feels deserved. it's a nice thing, actually.

simply catching up on all things general hospital
