seriously romantic: the bride next door by hope ramsay

the extended lyndon family and assorted other residents of last chance, are still looking and finding love in the bride next door . matt lyndon has a playboy reputation, even if he actually started out as less than smooth with the ladies. courtney knows that matt is a player and based on her male classification system this means that he's not worth the effort. when matt and courtney are actually spending time together and she puts down her walls, there's a lot to enjoy about their relationship. the problem is that there is so much baggage that poot matt is carrying around, everyone makes these terrible assumptions about his character. it's really bad. i spent most of the book feeling sorry for matt and hoping he could escape back to d.c. away from his horrible family. and even courtney at times. because she's a super jerk to him too a lot of the itme. the only other characters worth spending any time with were arwen and rory. and maybe the hints of ryan and joni.

seriously romantic: his to claim by shelly bell

when ryder meets jane he is enchanted from the get-go. but then she disappears after a night of hot sex and he suspects that she stole his code. after all, she works for the enemy. when they meet again at his brother's wedding to her biological mother, he learns two things. one, she's not the villainess he's been painting her as in his thoughts. and two, she's had his baby in the year since he last saw her. his to claim  doesn't waste time getting ryder and jane back together. it's the realization that everything they've been working so hard on in their careers can put everything they hold dear in danger that has them floundering. but even as they are figuring things out they have crazy hot sex all over the place. it's super impressive especially given the fact that she has a three-month-old. but hey, these books are all about the fantasy. **his to claim will publish on april 10, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand

seriously romantic: the last king by katee robert

katee robert kicks off a new series set in texas, where instead of boston mobsters, in the last king   you've got texas oilmen (and women) facing off. the king family is fractured. and it all began when lydia king was cast aside by her father in favor of her brother. she's built a rival business, but she still wants morningstar. and she will do anything and everything to get it. beckett king has just lost his father. losing his family home is a cut too deep. everything about this is wrong. and he knows that lydia is somehow behind this. even worse, he knows that lydia knows that he feels more than he's willing to admit for her sexy employee samara mallick. samara has had to fight and scrap her way to the top. there were no silver spoons. she doesn't have the power and leverage that the king family name provides. her loyalty should belong to lydia. but the longer she's in the middle, the more she sees that all is not right with her boss. when the danger gets too

seriously romantic: it happened in the highlands by may mcgoldrick

it happened in the highlands  is a second-chance at love story that addresses some real issues like adoption and identity and race. wynne melton and jo pennington had been engaged once, when they were young and innocent. he was going off to war and she was overwhelmed by a society that didn't quite know where to place her. he broke her heart. and he nearly died for it. and sixteen years later they meet again. this time when a patient at the mental hospital he helps manage draws images that bear her likeness. there is a mystery afoot. and it might reveal the secrets of jo's birth and her circumstances. wynne has never forgotten her. he's never forgiven himself for how he handled things. but jo doesn't want to dwell on the past. she wants to move forward. except neither of them can forget the hold they had on each other's hearts back then. it's a hold that is still evident in the present. and so they find their way back to each other. and they learn about

seriously romantic: kiss me back by sidney halston

in kiss me back ,  fox has had his eye on lola since she started working at panic, but she's rebuffed his every move. it's not that she isn't interested. it's that she has plans and a goal and falling for a ridiculously hot bouncer isn't one of them. when fox figures out her secret, she's terrified that he's going to rat her out. or even worse, lose interest in her. but he proves her wrong at every turn. he's supportive and accepting and tries so hard to understand and learn about her wants and needs. the problem is that lola has a very specific end date for her job as a bartender and that end date coincides with her leaving the country. so what is the point of starting something up with fox when there is no future for it. the last thing she needs is someone giving her a reason to stay, not when all she has ever wanted to do is go. what fox and lola need to realize is that dreams can shift and change. and sometimes what you think you want isn'

seriously romantic: bad business by nicole edwards

jason stone has basically accomplished everything he ever dreamed of during his nfl career. but now he has a chance of bringing the lombardi trophy to his hometown. he's focused on the here and now. playing the game one day at a time, not thinking about what tomorrow will bring. because he's pretty sure that he's walking away after this season. when savannah's father asks her to take a special interest in stone and manage his pr appearances for the team as well as encourage him to sign another contract for a couple of years, she's conflicted. it's bad business . because she's spent one incredible night in jason's arms and she can't stay away from him. but his future plans affect her too. at least those involved with whether or not they're spending their lives together do. which takes them a long time to admit, but they are pretty much all in from the get-go. i like that when savannah admits that her father asked her to get close to him, sto

surely supernatural: risen by cole gibsen

for a while, vampires were all the rage in paranormal stories, but then they weren't. they might be making a comeback, and that's a-ok by me because i always enjoy a good vampire story. the vampires in risen  aren't your normal vamps. their origin story involves three clans of vampires, with very different abilities, and different ways of treating humans. when charlie's aunt is taken by monsters, and she's left behind with one of them, she's not sure that she'll survive. but when they touch sebastian realizes there's more to charlie than meets the eye, and he's not going to dispose of her until he figures out why she seems to be the key to unlocking the memories of his past.  on a road trip of sorts, charlie learns that there is so much more happening in the shadows than she ever realized, and she learns to fight and who not to trust. as she and sebastian get closer to unlocking the secrets that connect them, the attraction that (literally)

seriously romantic: savage prince by meghan march

temperance ransom has done her best to leave her bad girl roots behind. but sometimes it feels so good to be bad. the intimate, erotic moments she shares with a stranger are driving her wild. she wants to know who he is. but he lives in a dangerous world. he is secrets and sex and lust and blood. she knows the square of his jaw. the piercing blue of his eyes. the weight of his body on hers. the feel of him inside her. but she doesn’t know his name. and we don’t either for the whole of savage prince . and that mystery continues on to iron princess . we do get to see our friends from the beneath series again. particularly, rix and valentina and ariel and yve. obviously, lachlan and kiera are present here too. and it’s clear that temperance will find herself drawn further into the dark side of new orleans as the series continues. and i can’t wait to see how dark and twisty this road will get. this ends on a cliffhanger that kicks up the suspense and mystery up a level and now we

seriously romantic: the pursuit of mrs. pennyworth by callie hutton

there are quite a few things i really enjoyed about the pursuit of mrs. pennyworth : one, that 's not merely a romance, it's actually a pretty good mystery (even if i figured out who the culprit was about halfway through. i still wasn't sure until the end.) two, while the characters are respectable members of society, this isn't a books about dukes and duchesses and i find that so refreshing. this all starts when charlotte pennyworth seeks mr. eliot baker for some advice on a deranged gift giver who seems to be obsessed with her. as she and eliot get close during the course of the investigation their attraction to one another builds. and soon it’s difficult to imagine life without each other. there are secrets and lies, twists and turns and these two characters are delightful throughout.   **the pursuit of mrs. pennyworth will publish on march 26, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (amara) in exchange for my hones

seriously romantic: the undercover billionaire by jackie ashenden

the last tate brother continues the tangle with the de santis family, this time kidnapping youngest daughter olivia in the name of completing his mission. in  the undercover billionaire , wolf discovers that everything he’s ever been told is a lie and the mission he’s on isn’t as noble as he imagined it to be. for all the suspense and sex, these books are surprisingly cerebral. and i enjoy that we get a full sense of where the characters are emotionally, even if it’s all going on in their heads. because we are allowed to understand them. we get why they tick. and how they fall or maybe how they realize how far they’ve fallen, oh-so-long ago. **the undercover billionaire will publish on march 27, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/st. martin's press   in exchange for my honest review.

seriously romantic: changing the rules by erin kern

in changing the rules , assistant coach cameron gets the family he never knew he wanted when his sister's best friend comes to blanco valley to deliver his niece, who is now his charge after her mother's death. audrey has upended her life for piper, but there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for her best friend’s little girl. and if it means sticking around blanco valley during football season and making sure that piper’s bachelor uncle figured out how to become a surrogate dad, well then, that’s what she’ll do.  what she doesn’t count on is how attractive she will find him. and how he challenges her but also makes her see where she could do better. audrey and cameron make each other whole. they are better together than apart. it takes them a while to figure this out, and this is a slow burn romance for sure, but it’s sweet and emotional too. **changing the rules will publish march 27, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (

seriously romantic: from your heart by shannyn schroeder

the o'malley's series continues with from your heart  and focusing on player brother, kevin. when kevin crosses paths with kathy, the girl who ghosted him at his brother's engagement part he's pissed to learn that her take on how things ended is very different than his. and so he sets out on a long campaign to win her back. he goes out of his way to prove he's changed. he tells her he's in love with her. he's there for her in ways that she doesn't expect and he's fully open and honest with her. and she's kind of a jerk about it. like he may have been an idiot the first time around, but she didn't fight for him either. and she spends the majority of this book not giving him the benefit of the doubt and avoiding confrontation. plus there's an awful lot of moira and jimmy in this book and they are probably my least favotite o'malleys. i don't know i find them grating. kevin was actually a really great hero. it's too bad he

something from the archives: whispers in the dark - part 4

all good things come to an end. here's the epilogue where not everyone gets a happy ending.

slightly silly: riverdale - episode twenty-eight: there will be blood

there will be blood is an appropriate episode title to the continued ridiculousness that is riverdale . the blossom family tradition of minor incest is already continuing on. and all the twists! is that really clifford blossom? or his evil twin? or maybe just his plain old twin? given that twins run in the blossom family! hal and alice are finally, finally pulling the plug on their marriage. and i have to say i kept forgetting hal's relationship to the blossoms and the fact that he and penelope were bumping uglies and like how weird and borderline incest-y is that? like they're not related, but it's all still kind of creepy.  meanwhile, cheryl and tiffani's connection is growing apace and i kind of love it. i also loved how ms. topaz was a little bit like whoa this shit is getting crazy here.  here's my issue with the latest archie versus the lodges drama. he continues to chafe against and then side with the lodges every single time. he still is

seriously romantic: her perfect affair by priscilla oliveras

as an expat puerto rican living in a northen state without a large community of puerto ricans, reading this series gives me some serious homesickness. in her perfect affair , we get to see more of rosa fernández and what happens when she doesn't control every aspect of her life. when she takes a risk and goes for it with jeremy taylor, her longtime crush, the last thing she expects is an unplanned pregnancy. and to make matters worse, she's also suffering from hypermesis gravidarum (a condition anyone who follows the british royal family knows is not pleasant). rosa is a huge ball of insecurities and she's constantly attributing feelings and thoughts to jeremy that aren't there. but she's not a pushover either. in fact she spends most of her time pushing jeremy away. which i'll be honest, i have no idea why this dude fought so hard for her. she was kind of miserable and controlling the whole book. i mean look, given the situation and the stuff she was dealing

seriously romantic: wait with me by amy daws

if you've been following amy daws'  instagram , you'd know about this book—where the idea originated and how it came to be. and it's funny and cute and all that funny and cute is evident in the pages of  wait with me . kate is a romance writer who has found her writer's block is cured in the waiting room of her local tire depot. after bringing her friends and families' cars in for service she decides to just unobtrusively take up residence in the customer care center and enjoy the complimentary coffee and cookies for as long as she can. except for all that kate thinks she's boring old kate smith, the truth is she is the furthest thing from unobtrusive. when mechanic miles literally runs into her, he can't get her out of his mind. burned by a drama llama of an ex, miles isn't looking for a relationship. kate, partly because she's used to hiding behind her writer persona, introduces herself to him under her pseudonym, mercedes. somehow she ma

seriously romantic: merger to marriage by addison fox

merger to marriage  is a pretty traditional category romance. the leads, mayson and holt, meet-cute in the hotel lobby of a wedding reception they are both attending. but their crazy sexual chemistry has them ditching the wedding and heading upstairs for one night of passion. two months later their paths cross at a weekend getaway with friends and family. mayson is tired and nauseated and hungry and emotional, which if you read romance novels means that she is pregnant. she tells holt who reacts poorly but then rallies. he starts pushing for marriage and mayson is not convinced that's a good idea. her parents were not a good match and she doesn't want to subject her kids to living with parents in an unhappy marriage. they talk about business arrangements and talk about passion, but they both forget to talk about love even though it's pretty obvious that they are both in it long before they are willing to accept it. there's some extra drama around their backgrounds

seriously romantic: sinner by sierra simone

sierra simone goes back to the world of priest in sinner .  the bell family still grapples with their faith. and now their matriach is dying of cancer. sean, older brother of the former father bell, has taken on most of the caretaking. but he's still trying t hold true to his hedonistic lifestyle. when he meets a mysterious woman named mary he's intrigued and only the fact that he's called away to his mother's bedside tears him away from an almost kiss. what he doesn't realize until later is that mary is actually his closest friend, elijah's much younger sister, zenobia "zenny" iverson. and zenny is well on her way to entering the novitiate. sinner explores the lines between faith and the forbidden. the levels of angst for sean are many. he feels like he is corrupting an innocent. and he struggles with the amount of life he has on innocent zenny. but she is also wise beyond her years. her faith at once gives her a naïveté and a maturity to ha

slightly silly: riverdale, episode twenty-seven: the hills have eyes

i'm 99% sure i've watched the 1977 horror movie that gives this episode it's title. riverdale  continues to balance its high school drama with noir aesthetics and southern gothic atmosphere. it's what makes this show both wonderful and terrible. since sometimes i think we lose plot and character development to the atmosphere and overall look of the show. after the bombshell revelation that the big boss in charge of lodge was hermoine, nothing more is said of the matter. and hiram is all businessy and head of the family and decides that archie should take veronica and betty and jughead away for the weekend. which, for someone who seemed super duper conservative and, like, has these latino catholic sensibilities, hiram sending his young teenage daughter off for the weekend with her boyfriend just feels completely out of character. anyway, when cheryl is excluded from this weekend away, she retaliates by outing the betty and archie kiss to jughead. this doesn'

seriously romantic: thirsty by mia hopkins

seriously romantic: fully dressed by geri krotow

on paper this book has it all. the perfect location. the city girl meets southern boy/opposites attract conceit. and don't get me wrong, fully dressed  is enjoyable. it's just that for most of the book i thought maybe i was missing something? the book feels very much like the second book in a series. like we should already know the lead characters somewhat because we've gotten snippets of their stories in an earlier book. except fully dressed is the start of the series. and then poppy and brandon also have family drama and business drama and relationship drama, and they each also have an alternate name, poppy is also amber and brandon is gus and at a certain point it's almost a bit too much. i don't know. as a contemporary, opposites attract love story, fully dressed  totally works. i really liked both poppy and brandon. but part of me also wonders if this book is really where this series was meant to start. and i also wonder at some of the editorial choices

seriously romantic: the firstborn prince by virginia nelson

foster boyd ( the firstborn prince )   and his twin brother (the rogue prince) inherited a cosmetics empire and millions of dollars. they also inherited a life in the spotlight. now foster wants to manipulate the situation to ensure he has full control over the family business and he decides that help from image consultant natalie stolen is exactly what he needs. except the moment he meets her it's like he forgets his plan. and i'd explain the plan but to be honest, i don't think anyone in the book ever fully got it either, because it's not very clear and never really followed through on. but that's not actually a knock on the story. the plan was stupid from the get-go and foster's brother is clearly aware of what is going on anyway, which makes the whole thing even dumber. i'm sorry i need to stop talking about this plan. the plan isn't important. because from the moment foster meets natalie it's clear that all he wants is her. and even though

seriously romantic: scoring off the field by naima simone

when tennyson finally quits on dominic in scoring off the field  everything changes. she just figured it was time to stop putting her life on hold pining for someone who would never see her the way she wanted him to. but for dominic it's earth-shattering. it's ground shifting beneath his feet, suddenly the whole world around him is different and he can't figure out what changed. because suddenly he's seeing tennyson in ways he never did before. or ways that he managed to suppress before. and now she's dating and looking to move towns and leave him and his job behind. and it's all happening just when his contract is up for renewal and he needs to keep his head in the game. and the thing is, tenny has been dom's rock. she's his best friend. and he is hers. and on the one hand, you understand the hesitation to cross that line. when something is so good already, how could it be better right? well once the sparks fly and they get all crazy and hot and i

seriously romantic: the firefighter's perfect plan by sonya weiss

so in the interest of full disclosure, i must acknowledge that i'm sonya's literary agent. however, i had nothing to do with getting this book published, that was all her and entangled. and i'm just lucky i got a chance to read an early copy. it's pretty well-established on this blog that fake relationships are like romance novel catnip for me, and the firefighter's perfect plan  is the perfect blend of fake and real relationship that made this even better. josie moore has a terrible relationship with her parents, mainly because they are pretty terrible people. she's been a de facto bradford since she was a child. and in love with lincoln, her best friend casey's older brother since about the same time she became a de facto bradford. linc is the kind of guy who instinctively wants to save you. when josie admits that she needs him to pretend to be her boyfriend because she lied to her mother about it, he agrees. he knows how terrible her mother is. neverm

strictly literary: lies that bind by diana rodriguez wallach

as a sequel to proof of lies , lies that bind  does not disappoint. picking up the story right about where we left off, the second book opens with anastasia and her friends in london trying to find ways to escape and evade department d, while also searching for other dresden kids and finding a way to take department d down. there's plenty of suspense, but also some romance and teen angst between marcus and anastasia. because not as much world-building is required, this second book moves at a steady pace. and without giving too much away the twists and turns continue to grow, setting the stage for an epic book three to conclude the series. if you enjoyed book 1, then book 2 is a must-read. and if you enjoyed maggie hall's conspiracy of us series, this series is right up your alley. **lies that bind will publish on march 6, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (entangled teen) in exchange for my honest review.

strictly literary: proof of lies by diana rodriguez wallach

after losing her parents, the last thing in the world anastasia phoenix would want to happen is to lose her sister too. except in proof of lies  that might be the reality anastasia has to accept. but keira might not be dead. and in order to get to the bottom of what has been happening in her life, anastasia finds herself working with marcus rey, a mysterious new classmate with a bad boy attitide and a sexy spanish accent. (though part of me wishes the author had gone with the actual spanish spelling marcos, since marcus is the latin spelling.) both anastasia and marcus' parents work(ed) for the dresden corporation. and the more they explore the more sinister things appear. there's a lot of globe-trotting something that characterized anastasia and marcus' early years, but this story starts out in boston. a fact i love, because it's the city i consider home in my heart. so to hear all these familiar landmarks grounds the story in a way that allows the rest of the stor
