definitely, possibly, maybe

um, oops. so, i just finished watching the amazing (!!) thanksgiving episode of gossip girl . every year, they manage to make a good thanksgiving episode. in part, i think because it's the one holiday a year that they can contrive to have everyone together in a way that is somewhat natural and also manage to propel the story forward. this year's episode was a doozy. i wish i knew what the hell was going on. here are the highlights: 1. serena and tripp are k-i-s-s-i-n-g and of course everyone finds out. chuck spills the details to nate when it's captured on his hotel's security tapes. tripp's wife hears it from nate, after lily raises some red flags when she invites maureen and tripp over for thanksgiving dinner. and everyone (except maybe rufus) finds out when maureen decides to blab about it over rufus' lame thanksgiving joke. i don't know what the joke was, but it probably had to do with music since the punchline is "plymouth rock" and we all kno...

so i started writing the previous post last monday, and it took a week to post because the carpenter redoing the basement door decided to cut our cable and "fix" it with electrical tape, ensuring that our cable, internet and phone were completely out for over two days, and then we had out of town guests for the rest of the week. so, even though it took me all weekend, i've finally caught up with television that aired last week. show more monday's premiere: "gossip girl" oh, upper eastsiders how i've missed you and your ridiculous parties. and even more ridiculous clothing. and utterly ridiculous lack of plot and character development. " reversals of fortune " feels like a transition episode from start to finish, the gang is recovering from their summers and are eagerly anticipating their falls, and the show tries to balance recapping everyone's summer with some teasing of storylines to come, but it's just not that good at it. here's...

i meant to do this earlier, but circumstances beyond my control prevented my posting this any sooner. without more ado, the 2008 year in review... the good true blood and all that is sookie stackhouse i fell in love with the television series and then with the books. i can't believe that i have to wait until summer for the second season and until may for the next book to be released. i fell in love with vampires again, who knew that after "buffy the vampire slayer" and "angel" ended that i would one day be anticipating a show about vampires every week. "true blood" is a lavish production with amazing visuals and a lush sense of ambience. it's a pleasure watching not only for the story, but also for the amazing sense of place that the show gives you. it's like bon temps is real and all the crazy vampire stuff a possibility. gossip girl i can't say enough about "gossip girl" other than it is the best show on television. again a show...

i honestly believe that the best show on television at the moment is " gossip girl ." i don't know what that says about me personally. but i know that the show is unadulterated genius. it is also unabashedly ridiculous, and superlative in its excesses, but that all serves to make it so good. years ago, a coworker came up to me and said, "you read ya books don't you?" and handed me the first two books of cecily von ziegesar's gossip girl series. i never bothered to read them until i heard of the show, and so before the fall 2007 season i finally read the books. and they are terrible. not only are they terrible, they are terribly written. just because a book is ya doesn't mean that it isn't written intelligently, or that it doesn't have literary value. but these books, lack it all. i read the first book and skimmed through the second--i didn't have the patience to read through it all. then i simply went to wikipedia and read about how it ...
