when elias caldwell appears out of thin air at tyler forrester's prep school library, the explanation for how he got there is completely unbelievable. but tyler saw it happen. and elias is clearly a guy from another time period.  and i think that's what makes this so fun. elias and tyler connect as tyler shows elias how things are in the twenty-first century. it's like splash  but with cute boys and videos and a pocket watch that lets you time travel instead of mermaids.  i loved splash  so i'm serious when i'm saying i loved the time traveler's guide to modern romance .  elias and tyler are two great characters and one of the best things about their relationship is how knowing each other and learning about one another makes each of them realize things about themselves. and they grow and become better humans.  and i love how the story solves for the different time-period paradox. it's ...

part of me felt like i was thrust into the middle of a long-standing series, and had no idea what was going on in the darkest star . it seems like there's a story before, and that story before informs the story now in so many ways. but even though you have this niggling feeling. and yet, this is fully enjoyable as a standalone. the story really starts when evie meets luc. because the day she meets him is the day he stops staying away. even still he doesn't tell evie the whole truth, and you know that he's holding back. at least you suspect what it is, but it's really quite amazing when the truth comes out. basically, evie and luc have this incredible journey and it's worth going along for the ride. **the darkest star by jennifer armentrout  will publish on october 30, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/st. martin's press. 

alpha is the final book in the infinity division series. dylan granger has been the antagonist throughout the series, but his doppelgänger g is not quite that. he's not necessarily all good. he's volatile and just as in love with a version of ava, except she's known as sera. g and sera have escaped from the hold of an evil version of cora anderson. one who has experimented and tortured both g and sera. and to get out from under her influence they need to complete a specific set of tasks. the suspense and the danger that they face continues to draw them together, but g pushes against this because he feels so unworthy. he has enough of the bad dylan in him that he worries about being worthy. alpha  ties up the loose ends and closes out the series on a good note. a very enjoyable read, but i would recommend picking up infinity and omega . **alpha will publish on july 3, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (en...

the conclusion to the perfected series, unraveled  puts our beloved characters through the wringer, and not everyone makes it out alive. there are real stakes here. and ella and penn have to make difficult choices. and sometimes doing the right thing comes at a great cost. i don't really follow this author on social media, so i don't know the full story about why there is such a big delay between books two and three. the second part published in 2015 and part of me wonders if the events of 2016 affected the story here. because this book doesn't shy away from addressing political issues. and so much of it is relevant to what is happening today. if you've read perfected and tarnished , of course, you are going to pick up unraveled. if you haven't i recommend starting at the very beginning, the series makes the most sense that way. **unraveled will publish on april 3, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (entangled t...

it's always hardest to review book 2s in trilogies, because they are the middle of a story, and you can't spend too much time on plot because spoilers. in tarnished  ella continues to fight the pet program and tries to find her way back to penn. we meet another pet missy, technically we met her in book 1, but we spend more time with her here. we see ella grow as a person. she realizes her own agency. she questions things and tries to save others from having to experience her same hardships. something that isn't easy to do. this book does a lot more world-building and explains the mechanics of the pet program more fully, something that might have been slightly lacking in book one. but this makes sense because we are made aware of things alongside ella. this is ultimately her journey. and we'll see where it ends up tomorrow. **tarnished published on december 1, 2015. i  received a digital copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing (entangled te...

nina and ewan's story concludes in forbidden stranger and after all the angst and shocking twists it's totally well worth the wait. this time they must get to know each other again, since nina's mind has been reset one time too many. her fragile condition makes it difficult for ewan. he cannot be fully honest with nina, because her mind is not ready to process their tangled past. but keeping secrets is part of the reason they are in the predicament they are in. together they must find a way forward and see if they can recapture the love and intensity that inevitably builds between them. ewan still loves nina deeply, fiercely, and everything he does is for her. and when she understands that, she does appreciate it. but she also can't help feeling betrayed. especially when she realizes that part of ewan's way of protecting her has been by tracking her every move and setting her up with watchdogs.  so much of the resolution depends on nina working ...

book two in the protector series, wicked attraction , picks up right where dangerous promise  left off. nina has been rehired by ewan for protection, and he's basically trying to win back the trust he broke by not confiding his role in developing the enhancements that are slowly going to kill her as they deteriorate. he's also working on a plan to alter the ban he was instrumental in enacting, so that those who have already received enhancements may be eligible for updates. he's still keeping secrets though. he hasn't shared the extent of his work with nina, or what his actual plans are. trust is very much an issue between them. on the one hand, ewan trusts nina with his body. he enjoyed the pain she gives him. he loves to be under her control. but when it comes to his business dealings, his political intrigues, he is less forthcoming. part of this is because he is afraid of her judgment. but part of it is also that he isn't very good at letting others in. so ...

The Protector series trilogy is an action-packed, fast-paced sci-fi romance with tons of heat and sizzle. I pretty much binge-read the series as soon as I had access to it. There are cliffhangers at the end of the first two books, so the individual books don't standalone. You will want to begin at the beginning and you will want to read to the very end. I loved Nina and Ewan's story. Keep reading for some information on the books, including an excerpt of Dangerous Promise .

you guys, i'm really traumatized by the idea that the cw is going to remake roswell . like it's going to be a very different show, but like there are so many things about the original show that i still hold dear to my heart. i'm very skeptical that i'd feel so strongly about the show and the characters that i'd feel compelled to write fan fiction about it. these days my fiction writing tends to be stuff i come up with on my own. but i enjoy looking at the archives because it shows me how i've improved as a writer over time. and i also enjoy remembering the girl i was back then. i've lived what feels like a lifetime since i wrote these stories. i graduated, i got a job, i fell in love, i got married, i had kids. life is so different now. maybe that's why the idea that roswell  is being remade strikes such a chord. i can't go back to who i was then, nor do i want to. and it's probably why i'm not too interested in a revival of this show, e...

i hadn't read a megan hart book in a while, but i'm so glad i picked up the protector series. set in a not so distant future where a team of soldiers have been artificially enhanced and their status is politicized, dangerous promise , brings together one of the super soldiers and the man who ensured that there would be no further enhancements. nina didn't ask to be experimented on, but she'd signed away the rights to her dead body when she'd joined the army. she just never expected them to use it in a manner that had her come back to life. and she doesn't hate her life as one of the enhanced. she just wishes that the law wouldn't forbid the upgrades her body needs in order to survive. because the truth of the matter is that she's running on borrowed time. ewan may be the chief proponent of legislation against enhancements, but he's also the man who came up with the technology. it's just that he didn't realize the ethical problems until ...

omega picks up not long after infinity  left off, with noah, cade and kori pursuing dylan through parallel universes in order to stop him from killing all the kori's. the problem is the cuff enabling their time travel is acting up, and the reality they end up stuck in is more dangerous than any they've faced before. to a degree omega is a standalone, because it focuses on noah and his constant, ash, instead of cade and kori who are secondary characters here. but understanding the plot and the action really does require familiarity with the first book, so i would recommend people start there. as lead characters noah and ash prove to be as compelling as cade and kori were. their connection is just as apparent, and given the reality they've lived in, is almost easier to accept than it was for cade and kori. the big bad here shifts somewhat, because even though dylan is still a threat, this new world they've inhabited has even bigger and badder villians. the omega p...
