slightly silly: riverdale, episode twenty-six: the tell-tale heart

the story referenced by the episode title is very suited to the overall mood of this episode. everyone is hiding something and at the end of the day, the truth will out.

i mean, the biggest secret is still hidden, but plenty of revelations happened this episode. archie confessed his interactions with agent adams to hiram and then learned that the actual boss in the lodge family is hermione. she's like lady macbeth and i can't wait to see what happens when she cracks. i think this is one of those revelations that might have been decided late in the game, because i'm not sure this is consistent with the hermione who started out fresh in riverdale.

that being said, it could just be that hermione has always played one hell of a long game. it will be interesting to see what happens with the lodges and archie, and how that affects fred.

another thing outed this episode? the fact that mayor mccoy has been having an affair with sheriff keller. she is forced to step down, which is the result that the lodges wanted, but veronica's intervention allows the mayor to save face and hide the actual scandal. but this affair is starting to become an open secret.

let's talk about affairs for another second, because hal cooper's affair with penelope blossom is also revealed here. the coopers marriage has been a disaster for a while now. it will be interesting to see where it goes from here. one thing that seems so odd to me is the fact that hal barely acknowledges that chic is his kid. and alice has gone completely bonkers protecting him. and on the one hand she has some clear guilt about things in her past. on the other she just killed someone for him and is covering up the murder and it still seems like she's not asking any hard questions.

chick manages to be super creepy every time he is on screen. so i'm kind of #teamhalonthisone.

because let's face it. the murder is the biggest secret, not everyone knows about it yet. but the cooper ladies are now in bed with the jones's and i have a feeling things are going to continue to go wild. and i love it.
