slightly silly: riverdale, episode 15: nighthawks

there were no earth-shattering revelations in episode 2 of riverdale, just more build up around this season's mystery killer. we know fred was possibly targeted. ms. grundy was also targeted. and by the end of the episode there are two dead teenagers who may or may not have been targeted.

what is going on? i'm sure we'll discover more as the episode continues.

molly ringwald is m.i.a. again after appearing briefly in the premiere when fred was released from the hospital. but archie has been staying up nights to protect his home and is kind of falling apart. and i don't know if the material is better, or the direction is better, or if kj apa is just bringing it this season, but archie suddenly has some real depth to him. it's not just washboard abs and strumming the guitar mournfully with him anymore. there's an edge to archie, one that they seemed to be reaching for last season, but that is really being tapped into now and it's working for me. i buy archie's stress and anxiety. he's hanging by a thread, and as things continue to spiral in riverdale, this will only get worse for archie.

meanwhile, veronica is playing a game of strategy with hiram and hermione. and while veronica is a good schemer, she's outclassed by her parents. it's too early to tell where this series of maneuvers will lead, but every time veronica gives an inch of ground her parents make moves that neatly box her in. she's not oblivious though, veronica is aware that her parents are probably not the good guys. she's just not sure how bad they are.

jughead and betty are also wheeling and dealing in this episode, and while they seem to get a series of wins, the consequences of the deals they made in this episode aren't spelled out yet. saving pops diner and f.p. from a 20-year prison sentence are seemingly good things, but jughead and betty may have sold a bit of their souls in the process, and it's fine now, but what happens when favors are called in?

all in all, it's another solid episode of riverdale. can't wait to see what the show has in store for us tonight!

simply catching up on all things general hospital

hmmm, it's been months since i've blogged about gh . partly this is due to the fact that i fell behind while i was traveling. partly because all the outrage lapsed into disinterest when i realized i couldn't bring myself to care anymore and everything that was happening was just so trite and boring. some days i still feel that way. and there are still whole storylines that i either hate or just fast forward through. but there are some good things too. in no particular order, here are my thoughts on the goings-on in port charles: 1. soras [and why re-casting roles works on soaps even if you do miss the original actors]: the new, older versions of sonny's kids are turning out to be quite enjoyable. [although hilariously, cameron whom i believe is older than molly is now younger. and because cameron is so cute, i'm kind of hoping they won't fix that. we also haven't seen spencer in ages, so he may be approaching 50.] in any case, at this point we've only s

genre debate: urban fantasy versus epic fantasy: team epic gets their say

Team Epic: Why I Love Epic Fantasy! Since it's my blog, I'll go first: Epic fantasies take you on quests that take you beyond the limits of what is real. The rules can be different, they are different, and everything just matters more. It's not just one life at stake, it's lives, it's a whole world, a whole way of being. Epic fantasies force you to use your imagination and take you on an adventure to places you never thought possible, but as different as everything feels, there are still things that are always real, no matter how you write it. Keep reading to see what a handful of Entangled TEEN authors think about epic fantasies: Erica Cameron - Island of Exiles (The Ryogan Chronicles, #1): Why do I love epic fantasy? It's a blank slate. We can erase all of our preconceived notions of society and law and even science, throwing all of that over the side of a cliff. Epic fantasy lets us push humanity well past the breaking point with ever
