book 2 in the daring divorcees series finds trevor booth dealing with the sudden death of his ex-wife, lisa, and wrangling his two teenaged children. a recovering alcoholic, most everyone is expecting him to relapse and mess up somehow, but trevor is determined to be the best version of himself he could be.
when callie shows up, she's devastated by her best friend's death, and is determined to be there for her kids, the kids she's been there for since their parents' divorce. but she also has to figure out how to navigate things with her best friend's ex, she used to be friends with trevor too, but when his relationship with lisa fell apart things between them grew distant.
it's not easy to handle grief. and callie and trevor have a lot of ups and downs to deal with as they deal with the repercussions of everything that has rocked their world since lisa died. and the connection that grows, the one that was always there, is impossible to ignore. but there is also so much baggage between them. not just everything that happened when trevor and lisa were married, but callie has her own issues and trevor isn't the best at communication.
i will say that there were times in this story where we were asked to sort of take callie's side, when she was very obviously in the wrong. there were so many moments where she should have talked things out with trevor before making parenting calls or overruling things he established. they resolve those things.
